Glassware used in cocktail making is nearly as varied as the cocktails that can be served. Recipes call for a variety of different glasses when making drinks.

For those of you that are not familiar with the different types of glasses on the market, here is a list describing many of them that are generally used in drink preparation.

Collins Glass Collins Glass Named after the drink Tom Collins. A tall and skinny glass - clear or frosted glass. 10 - 16 oz
Cordial Glass Cordial Glass Small and stemmed glass used for serving small portions of liquors. 2 oz
Cordial Glass Cordial Glass Rounded Cordial Glass. 2 oz
Coupette Glass Coupette Glass A slightly larger and rounded glass compared to a cocktail glass. Has a broad-rim for holding salt, ideal for margaritas. Also used in daiquiris and other fruit drinks. 12 oz
Highball Glass Highball Glass Straight and wide glass with the base and rim having the same diameter. 12 oz
Hurricane Glass Hurricane Glass A tall and elegantly shaped glass named after a hurricane lamp used for exotic/tropical drinks. 15 oz
Irish Coffee Cup Irish Coffee Cup Also known as the Irish Coffee Glass. Glass has a short stem and a handle and is used for almost any hot beverage. 8 - 10 oz
Margarita Glass Margarita Glass A broad-rimmed glass for holding salt, ideal for margaritas. Slightly larger then a cocktail glass. Also used for daiquiris and other fruit drinks. 12 oz
Mason Jar Mason Jar A large square container for keeping their contents sealed in an airtight environment. 16 oz
Old Fashioned Glass Old Fashioned Glass A short glass with a base diameter the same size as the rim. 4 - 8 oz
Parfait Glass Parfait Glass Pronounced Par fey - also known as the glass for foo foo drinks. Stem keeps ice cream from melting quickly. Comes in various shapes. 12 oz
Pilsner Glass Pilsner Glass The traditional pilsner glass with a fluted shape with a foot. 12 - 16 oz
Red Wine Glass Red Wine Glass An elegantly shaped stemmed glass used to serve red wine. 8 - 10 oz
Sherry Glass Sherry Glass A small narrow stemmed glass for aperitifs, ports, and sherry. 2 oz
Shot Glass Shot Glass Made of thick glass, especially at the bottom. The regular shot glass is approximately 2 inches tall and the tall shot glasses can be as high as 6 inches. Short glass:

Whiskey Sour Glass Whiskey Sour Glass This is a stemmed, wide opening glass - a smaller version of a champagne flute. 5 oz
White Wine Glass White Wine Glass Long stem helps keep the wine stay chilled by keeping the warm hand away from the part that holds the wine. 6 - 8 oz
