Cool disco party at home
Plan a cool disco party at home. It is great fun to disco the night away with your friends. The key to a really cool disco party is good up-beat music, a dance floor, a theme and good lighting. "Saturday Night Fever" is a good theme choice.
Preparations
- Identify a good dance spot
- Hang a mirrored ball above the dance floor. If you cannot find a mirrored ball to rent or buy, you can make a CD disco ball
- Check the lighting in the dance room. Position spotlights in the corners of the room so that they hit the mirrored ball or CD disco ball at strategic angles. Make sure that you can keep the lighting around the dance floor dim and the dance floor well lit
- Arrange some beanbags or large cushions on the floor around the dance floor for cozy conversations
- Prepare a drinks serving area
- Prepare disco mixes in advance. The music should be up-tempo with a danceable beat
- Serve glasses of punch as the guests arrive
- Those guests that arrive not dressed according to the theme, add some glitter and some color hair spray and they will fit in well with the other guests.
More ideas for a great disco party
Welcome your guests dressed wearing loud clothes in awkward color combinations: yellow, pink and green is a good choice. Wear an Afro wig or gel your hair big and wild. Guys, wear tight fitting pants and two-tone shoes. A touch of white shoeshine can make a great two-tone shoe. Different colored socks are a good addition to your look. Expose as much chest hair as possible.
Ladies, wear a tight fitting dress, apply fake eyelashes and lots of blue eye shadow. Make your body sparkle and shine. Cover yourself in glitter. Round off your dress with platform shoes if you have any.
Guys and ladies accessorize with lots of fake gold chains and jewellery.
Encourage group dances such as funky chicken.
Have a best disco dance pair competition.
