Different stages of intoxication

» Tips and Info

A party host has the responsibility to see that the guests at a party do not drink and drive. Although alcohol free parties are the ideal way to avoid intoxicated guests, we know that such an idea is unrealistic. Alcohol is served at most adult parties. Therefore it is prudent to be aware of the process of intoxication. If you are using the services of a bar tender, make sure he or she is also informed.

The stages of intoxication are:

Minimize the risk of alcohol abuse.

  1. Appoint a "bartender" to mix drinks who can keep track of the amount of alcohol each guest consumes and limit their intake.
  2. Make sure there is sufficient food so that your guests do not drink on empty stomachs.
  3. Make sure that you have lots of non-alcoholic drinks available.
  4. Use a fruit base in a punch. It slows down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.
  5. Avoid serving salty snacks and food. It tends to make one want to consume more liquids.
  6. Introduce your guests to party games.
  7. Towards the end of the party - close the bar and serve coffee and dessert.
