Prepare food shopping list for a party
The key to a successful party is to be organized. Once you have planned your menu, you will have to go on a shopping spree, probably a few, to buy all the food items you will need. A well-planned shopping list, probably more than one, is what you need so that you will not forget an item or two.
This is how you can go about constructing a shopping list:
- In a notepad or with your computer construct a table with three columns: Number, Item, Amount and Tick. Your main list is the Master List that will contain most of the items that you will purchase from the supermarket. For items that you cannot purchase at the supermarket, construct another list. It is a good idea to have a different list for each of the shops that you will be visiting. Prepare a last-minute-shopping-list for fresh produce that you will need to purchase at the last minute, as well as for those items that you might not have bought earlier.
- Keep the menu handy.
- Assemble all the recipes that you will be preparing.
- Go through each recipe and write on the Master List all the ingredients that you will need to purchase from the supermarket.
- Items that you cannot purchase from the supermarket should be listed on of the other lists.
- Record the amounts on the lists using amounts that you are accustomed to.
- While shopping, or after your shopping sprees, tick off the items that you have purchased.
- Be sure to schedule the dates for your shopping sprees on your party-planning timetable.
I have found that for the Master List, listing the items according to the menu works well. Here is an extract of a Master List, in the following order:
- Hors-d'oeuvre
- Main course
- Dessert
- After dessert
- Beverages
Take note that I have listed the beverages below the menu items.
